First chocolaterie on the African continent

With the opening of a chocolaterie in Cairo, Egypt, Läderach is expanding its global presence to the fourth continent. The chocolaterie in Cairo, which opened in May, is operated by our franchise partner BTC Trading Co. “The opening on the African continent is another milestone in our successful growth strategy, especially with franchise partners,” explains Mario Knezevic, Head of Asia & International Franchise, adding, “We see sustainable potential for the Läderach in North Africa. We are planning additional openings not only for the next few years, but already in the coming months.”

Opening in 25th country and long-term growth targets

The company remains optimistic about its long-term growth targets. “We have big plans and are confident that we can continue on our growth and expansion course,” explains CEO Johannes Läderach. “This includes openings in existing and particularly strong markets such as North America, Austria, and Germany, but also exciting new markets where we see excellent prospects, such as Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Indonesia,” adds Johannes Läderach. At the end of last year, the company celebrated its 200th chocolaterie, and by the end of the fiscal year in July 2025, there will likely be over 240 locations worldwide. The opening of the third production site, “Bilten 2,” on Linth-Escher-Strasse in Bilten, where primarily the popular FrischSchoggi creations will be produced, is planned for August 2025 and will ensure that production capacities can keep pace with rapid international growth.

Läderach

Freshness, artisanal skills, and Swissness – these are the core values the Swiss chocolate factory Läderach stands for. Founded in 1962, the family company employs approximately 2500 people from around 80 countries across the Group, which is headquartered in the canton of Glarus. Läderach carefully oversees every step of the production process, from sourcing cocoa beans to delivering finished products, and manufactures its chocolate exclusively in Switzerland. This positions them as one of the few premium producers to ensure high quality from bean to finished product.
